TARUN TEJPAL - CORPORATE ROGUISHNESS IN LEGITIMATING THE SEXUAL OFFENCE

“In the post modern era, family, husband-wife relationship, discipline in sexual relationship has become an outdated one. At present any person can have relationship with anyone they wish. If both the person has consent, who has the right to interfere.”- This is the philosophy forwarded by the Male corporate world and the upper elite literary society to legitimate their promiscuous living as the so called revolt against morality. They take the authority by saying that in this type of promiscuous act female will not express her interest, but only the male has to take initiative. Even if the woman objects then she has to be coerced because this is the right of man and not only that, but a way to protect women rights. Along with this philosophy when disgusting ideology and authority join hands then it becomes a dangerous weapon in the hands of men. Engels described Family as a patriarchal institution in the Origin of Family, Private Property and State. But the understanding of post modernists and Marxists differ here. The society we are living is a semi feudal society. Patriarchy works in different strata of society, the level may differ. In rural areas caste works as a tool to exploit women. In the corporate society the authority is used to exploit women. Women who come out of their home to work in corporate companies are not free from the clutches of patriarchy and feudalism in the Indian society. The above argument is a tool in the hands of men to exploit women.  The recent instances of sexual harassment against women in different institutions i.e.  harassment of the intern lawyer in judiciary by the supreme court judge, sexual and caste based harassment of students by professors in the universities (in the universities like JNU), sexual harassment of journalists in media justify  the sexual harassment of women in the so called ‘postmodern-world’ which express any kind of relations within semi-feudal structures as just.

We can quote the Madras high court judgment here about marriage. Living together may be considered as a progressive thing. But in most of the cases the male use to exploit women during the relationship. At the last instance women are the one who are affected. Women can choose their partners only when they are economically free. But in today’s world in everyday life, the women who work in IT sector have to adjust with sexually coloured remarks, behaviors and words uttered in the name of jokes which carry abusive meanings, which have to be tolerated by them to grow in their professional life. The fear of economic loss after resignation and the fear of making the issue public stops women from leaving the job and make them to tolerate. Making use of their situations persons like Tarun Tejpal each and every day make these innocent women as prey for their evil desires.

            How a woman has to face the verbal comments that are made by persons who are holding authority in the context of concern or sense of humour? In 1999, a woman journalist who was working in Outlook faced a sexual harassment when a glamorous photo of her showing her hip was circulated to all the staff in the office by a fellow colleague. When this was complained to the management by that affected woman, Shoma Chaudhury who was in-charge of the office advised saying ‘these types of complaints are not encouraged by the management and so accept an apology from the person concerned and conclude the issue’. The victimized woman journalist with no other alternative accepted that solution. But within three months of this incident the accused of the above act was given promotion. The affected journalist got frustrated and resigned her job. This Outlook magazine is owned and started by Rakeja a Real Estate Company with Vinoth Mehta as its Editor and Tarun Tejpal as its Administrative Editor at that point of time. Tarun Tejpal grown up in a military area as his father was an army man where he learned that how authority works and how it can be used.

Journalists like Ashish Khaitan and Anirudha Pagaal were pioneer in conducting sting operations and brought to light about political corruption, corporate corruption and policies against people. Tehalka journalist’s fearless investigations were kept at the feet of Tarun Tejpal and all these fame added feather to his hat. In 2007 ‘The Guardian’ has mentioned his name as India’s important person. In 2009 Business week magazine’s ‘Powerful person list’ listed his name in the 49^th position next to Ratan Tata and prior to Sachin Tendulkar.

            Tarun Tejpal is smart enough in differentiating the social evils that was protested by Tehalka and the donors of Tehelka who were involved in those social evils. Raman Kirpal wrote a cover story about Goa’s iron ore Mafia which Tehalka never published. As per State Public Accounts Committee of Goa this mafia has incurred a loss of Rs. 3000 crore to the state exchequer. It was published after Raman Kirpal made his exit from Tehalka and joined the First Post, an online magazine. In the name of Corporate Social Responsibility, Telhalka published an article about Vedanta’s Lachigar and Niyamgiri. The editor whose name was mentioned in that news later announced in public that he has not written that news.

In 2011, Tehalka arranged its Think fest at Goa. For this conference Tehalka’s Editor, Tarun Tejpal and his sister Neena Tejpal met Goa’s Chief Minister Digambar Kamat. And this conference was arranged in Grand Hayiath Hotel, Pambolin Beach, Goa. According to Raman Kirpal’s article those owner of the mines who were involved in the scams are also the Directors of this hotel. And this hotel was constructed on the sea shore without following the standard norms that has been codified for construction of buildings on sea shore. Essar Groups, Tata steel were included as delegates for Think fest 2011. Neena Tejpal said, “Essar and Tehalka are having same goals.” Along with these corporates (who grabbed the tribal lands in Nyamagiri, who were involved in scams in the allotment of coal mines) Telhelka decided to continue their protest against the corruption. Gujarat’s Adani Group, United Phosphate, Coco Cola were part of Tehalka’s sponsers list. According to CAG where the Karnataka Coal scam has incurred a loss to the extent of Rs. 890 Crores to the state ex-chequer. JSW steel which gave Rs. 20 crores as donation to Edyurappa’s Son was one of the sponser. Pepava an arms supplying company which had an agreement with Indian Coast Guard for supplying War Ships has provided fund for the programme. The speakers invited for the conference are Odhisa Mine and Cable TV President and a Member of Parliament representing BJD Pai Jayand Jai Panda, and Vijaymalaya who publishes calendar with glamorous models.

Third Think fest held this year from November 8^th to November 10^th was Tarun Tejpal utilizing his corporate authority and the so called right of men committed sexual assault on a women journalist who was his colleague. After making his position stable with the support of Corporates, Tarun Tejpal exhibits his perverted behavior. As Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said while expressing his view on Coal Mine allotment Scam that “there is no mistake in the idea of privatising the coal mines, some mistakes may have taken place while deciding one or two applications”. Same way Tarun Tejpal says “In his behaviour nor in his concept there was no mistakes, there is no problem in his behaviour with women but this time mistake has taken place in deciding”. Because of some prominent journalist of Tehalka - the mask of right wing Hindu fascists torn down and their corruption and the mass killings were brought to light. Now, those Hindu fascists are making use of this issue, and want to tarnish the name of Tarun Tejpal. Not only him but they are painting the whole of Tehalka as villain. BJP wants to satisfy its vengeance and spreads this news throughout the country. All these incidents will not make the scams and the mass killing of the barbaric Hindutuva followers that was published by Tehalka, untrue. Hindu fascists have a strong enemity on Tehalka for bringing into light about Modi’s barbaric act to the world is a known fact. ABVB and their cohorts in this campus do not have any rights to condemn Tarun Tejpal which by itself has all sorts of tainted sexual remarks in the name of religion, caste, epic and even as ideology. In analyzing the remark ‘that Congress supported Tehalka and Tehalka supported Congress’, one can explain that Congress never came forward to utilize the weapon of Tehalka’s documents relating to Gujarat riots to curb and control the Hindu fascists rather it used as a best tool to canvas the votes of Muslim population.

The downfall of Tarun Tejpal is no way different from the downfall of the corporate funding Tehelka magazine. Committing a crime is an offence and that crime cannot be justified by simply stating ‘mistake has taken place in deciding the crime’ and that can be considered as another crime. This is an instance to learn a lesson about the corporate culture which justifies casteist and sexual harassment in the name of ‘postmodern values’ of liberation.     

    

RAM – A REAL HERO OR VILLAIN?

But Muslims are praising Babur – who is an invader, an occupier and one who demolished temple of Lord Ram. They are not willing to accept Ram as an incarnation – as an avatar purush”

‘Ram’ is an investment used by the BJP-RSS clique for the past more than 15 years to promote their ‘business’. The kind of fraudulent advertisements and false propaganda they unleash are in no way lesser compared to the multi-million dollar charming & selective promotion strategy of fraudulent MNCs. “Golden era”, “nationalism”, “national pride”, “swadeshi…videshi”, etc etc. are a few of those deceptive misconceptions that are being reeled-off in these ‘promotions’. These fraudulent stories are the foundations for the ‘Hindu Consciousness’ they are trying to create. Babur, Babri Masjid, Muslims are invaders – traitors etc. are a web of conspiracies they are trying to spread, upon which they are trying to create an illusion about Ram, Ayodhya, Hindu sentiment, national hero – nationalism etc. As far as Hindu fanatics are concerned, it is the duty and a pre-condition for every Indian citizen to accept and worship Ram. Those who don’t accept or worship Ram are traitors. This idea of ‘Hindu sentiment’ and ‘Muslim aversion’ has spread and has poisoned the minds of majority of population; in many cases, this has happened to many without their conscience. Fraudulent projection of Ram, as mentioned above, is one of the primary reasons for that. In this given situation, it becomes extremely important and urgent for us to examine and understand this in detail; along with it, we should also be ready to shoulder the responsibility for rooting-out such a fraudulent manifestation. To understand the real history of Ram, who is being projected as a national hero, we should try to analyse the ancient, medieval and modern histories of India in the light of dialectical materialism i.e., the science of Marxism. The Hindu religion as mentioned in varna and caste fanatic epics and puranas – Vedas & Upnishads - Aryan invasion – racism etc tell us the stories of Brahmanism destroying the lives, culture and civilizations of the Indian aboriginal tribes. We will have to learn the entire history starting from the Indus valley civilization to what is happening today, including origination of religions and saints who had sole objective of opposing the oppressions and atrocities of brahminism – sanscritisation – arrival of the Moghuls – relationship between the Hindu and Muslim kings – historical reasons for the formation and destruction of kingdoms – invasion by the English – division of India in 1947…

The current objective of this pamphlet is not to deal with all of these; we will stop with examining whether the ‘avtar’ Ram has qualities required for a real hero (b) whether the ‘invader’ Babur led an oppressive regime. If we go by the argument that all invaders are occupiers, then Aryans were the first invaders into India. Story of described in the ancient source tale Ramayana is nothing but a proud description of how the Aryan invaders hunted down, tortured and killed the Dravidians, Nagas, and other Indian aborigines. That original ancient tale Ramayana is not in vogue anymore. A few hundred centuries later, Valmiki created Ramayana with all qualities required for an Epic. From Valmiki’s time to till date, Ramayana has undergone a number of changes, corrections and insertions as it passed through the times of history. Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan as shown on television and Valmiki’s Ramayan are too different from each other. Under the rule of America, most of the Hollywood movies are getting dubbed into most of the Indian local languages and are getting screened in small towns and villages. Similarly, Ram’s story of invasion, was also translated into many different languages all over India. Why and how these concepts from Aryan epics, puranas, Vedas and upnishads invaded into Indian languages, arts, culture and civilization? Majority of the aboriginal population was denied right of education; spreading of such stories through arts and diluting the culture served the purpose of inculcating the Aryan concepts of ‘discipline’ among the people and also to warn them about the punishments if such discipline were not adhered to. Deepest and most detailed analysis of different versions of Ramayana translated into a number of different South Asian languages will reveal only Aryan qualities Rama. As per the order of his Rajguru Vashisht, Ram kills Shambhuka, a shudra; Shambhuka’s only crime was doing penance with the objective of attaining God directly without any help or assistance from the fraudulent Bhraminical ‘intermediaries’. The aboriginal tribals were resisting Vishwamitr, who had occupied their lands. Ram kills the Asura tribals and saves Vishwamitr. Ram, like a coward, kills Vali, a master warrior, hiding from behind. He also kills his own wife Sita by burning her alive, on suspicions about her chastity - thus it was Ram, who initiated the culture of daughters-in-law murders in India (due to male-chauvinistic suspicions as well as dowry related murders). Ram, in totality, is a symbol of invasion and occupation in India, who has committed gruesome murders of tribal and their leaders like Ravana. Till date, Rama worship is not prevalent among majority of the population in South, East, North West and North East India. So, Rama, who is a symbol of racism, varna fanaticism, caste fanaticism and male-chauvinism, CANNOT be accepted as a real hero. Instead, he has to be hated as one of the worst and ghastly villains of our country.

Babur, like every other king, wants to become an emperor. You cannot find any of the Aryan qualities of Rama in Babur. Among the kings who fought against Babur, there are Muslims as well as Hindus. It is Babur’s Hindu generals, who presented a number of victories to Babur in many of the battles. There are historical records which talk about Babur providing subsidies to a number of temples and also Bhrahmins. In Babri-nama, a book with rare historical records, there is no mention or even a hint about Babur demolishing any of the Hindu temples. He has ordered demolition of naked Jain statues near Gwalior, that too with the objective of protecting public decency.The same book Babri-nama talks about the Will that Babur has written to his son Humayun (original Will document is also said to be available in the State Library of Bhopal):- "My son take note of the following: Do not harbor religious prejudice in your heart. You should dispense justice while taking note of the people's religious sensitivities, and rites. Avoid slaughtering cows in order that you could gain a place in the heart of natives. This will take you nearer to the people. Do not demolish or damage places of worship of any faith and dispense full justice to all to ensure peace in the country. Islam can better be preached by the sword of love and affection, rather than the sword of tyranny and persecution. Look at the various characteristics of your people just as characteristics of various seasons."

If we just compare the hatred speeches of the saffron gang of our times with that of the thoughts of religious harmony of a king some 500 years ago, we will come to know the worthiness of Ram and his heirs. This Will of Babur is not a fraudulent bhraminical legendary distortion; it is a historically documented record which can never be denied. In his will to his son, a father need not write a lie. Even if we assume that there had been a Ram temple, and even if Babur has really demolished it, there is absolutely no need for Emperor Babur to hide it at that time. Because, by no way he could not have predicted that the RSS lunatics would accuse him 500 years later. Poor Babur, he did not have the Gyan Drushti which was privy ONLY the ‘blessed’ bhramin rishis!! Still, the RSS and other Hindu fanatic gang has created a number of lies and concocted tales about Babur and other Mughul kings. Akbar, who came in the lineage of Babur, tried to unite different religions. He brought together a number of good aspects from different known religions of his period and created a new religion called ‘Dīn-i Ilāhī’. Akbar promoted tolerance of other faiths. In fact, not only did he tolerate them, he encouraged debate on philosophical and religious issues. Though his new religion was a failure, it was a very progressive thought for that time. Though he faced strong opposition from bhramins, he banned cruel practice of Sati. These are revealed in ‘Ayini Akbar’, a book which talks about his history. A general analysis will reveal that Mughul kings, like all other kings, were also exploiting people and were leading a sensuous life. But in administration and social aspects, they were much more exemplary when compared to Ram. In human history, there were a number of leaders whom we praise as ‘National Heroes’. These leaders understood the changes of their times, understood the reasons behind peoples’ sufferings, and have lead and participated in struggles for liberating people. Though the role of not leaders are not primary, they are important.

Spartacus, who organized the slaves of Rome, who have not even realised about their slavery, to stand together and struggle for freedom and equality; Jesus who worked to get rid of the cravings of the slaves; Mohammed, who regulated the lives of Arabian ethnic nomads; Buddha, who dreamt of creating a fraternal community by annihilating the brutal bhraminical rituals; Che Guevara who fought the American Imperialism till his last breath; Kamal Basha who relieved Turkey from the clutches of religious fanatics; Nelsan Mandela, who expended whole of youth in prison in his struggle against the racism; Bhagat Singh, who gave new confidence to the Indian youth in struggle against the British; the leaders of Naxalbari and Telengana struggles; Ambedkar, Periyar, Mahatma Phule are all National Heroes who have worked for betterment of lives of their fellow human beings. Marx, Engels, Lenin, Stalin and Mao are great leaders who dreamt of creating a communist society in future are fondly being remembered by the proletariat all over the world. Thus history has created a number of revolutionary leaders all through. But still these Hindu religious fanatics are issuing decrees to celebrate Ram as a national hero. Does Ram have even a single quality possessed by any one of these leaders?

Just for the sake of argument, even if we assume that the story of Ram is true, what is that he has done that is so extraordinary and precious? To save his father’s promise, he went on to live in the forest as instructed by his aunt; he made his brother the king, to rule the nation till his return; he conducted a huge battle, leading to loss of thousands of lives, just to save his wife; ruled Ayodhya again on his return. Still the only glory of Ram that every devotee of Rama, preachers and the RSS clique repeatedly describes is that he has remained faithful to his wife. Though there are claims contrary to that in Valmiki’s Ramayana, let us, for the sake of argument, accept that it is true. If we have to make a person a national hero, just for the sake of being faithful to his wife, what should we say about the worthiness of that particular religion or nation?

Thus, exposing all these fraudulent concocted tales about ‘great’ avtar Rama is not just an atheist debate – it is a freedom struggle against brahminical Hindu social structure for relieving the whole society from the clutches of brahminical deception. Ram is NOT A real hero; he is a villain. 

THE RAMAYANA (A TRUE READING)- E.V.R.PERIYAR

The stories of Ramayana were foisted that the heroes, their relations and their helpers are regarded as gods and super human beings and venerated by the people as worthy of being worshiped. A careful and analytical study of the original legends would reveal that the happenings and the events alleged to have taken place are most uncivilized and barbarous. Evidently, these myths are written so that Brahmins may look great in the eyes of others. The originals of these stories are written in Sanskrit. This enables those Aryans to put their interpretations really imaginary, differently at different times to suit the occasions and according to the intellectual capacity of the people in the midst of whom they preached. They call these stories the essence of Vedas, the 5^th Veda and so on. The original Ramayana contains nothing appreciable, nothing divine, nothing moral to be learnt and followed and nothing would stand to reason and that we should open our eyes and see for ourselves the fair pretences and hollowness of these stories. The Aryans when they invaded the ancient land of Dravidians maltreated and dishonored the later and had written a false colored history. The Hanuman, Sukriv and natives were called as monkeys and rakshasas. It is this they call Ramayana. While it is stressed that Ram the hero of the story should be valued as god descended from heaven in human form Valmiki the author depicts that Ram was wicked in thought and deed was an embodiment of lies, treachery, artifice, cunningness, greediness, murder, drunkenness and unmanliness and what not. The story of Ramayana is neither religious nor rational.

When we consider Rama and his character, he was nothing more than a casteist, patriarchal, cowardice, power hungry, selfish person. His amiable conduct towards the people his father and Kaikeyi was only motivated by his desire to usurp the throne. He was all along a snake under the grass. When Kaikeyi said to him, the king desired me to convey to you that Bharath should be crowned king of Ayodhya and you should go to forest. He replied the king has never told me that he would give the kingdom to Bharath. He told his wife Sita, ‘you cater to the taste of Bharath without earning his ill feeling. This will yield much benefit to us later.’ (Chapter 26, Ayodhya Kand) Bharath assured to Ram that he gave his claim to throne. Then only Ram disclosed to Bharath the secret that Dasrath had already handed over the kingdom to his mother Kaikeyi.(Chapter 107, Ayodhya Kand) Ram was ever suspicious of Sita’s character and ask her to plunge herself into the fire and come out to prove her chastity. Rama said, ‘Sita, how could Ravana have left you without being seduced and seeing her pregnancy Rama’s doubt increased. Rama took Sita to forest and left there when she was pregnant. Rama disfigured, mutilated many women by cutting of their noses, breasts, ear etc and tortured them (Surpanaka, Ayomuki). Rama also insulted women and said women should not be trusted and secrets should not be confided to wife (Chapter 100, Ayodhya Kand). Rama married many wives. Ram said to his mother, ‘it has been ordained that I have to lose the kingdom, forego the princely comforts and the tasteful meat dishes and to go to the forest to eat the vegetables and fruits.’ (Ayodhya Kand) Similarly Sambuka was killed by Rama because he was making penance which was forbidden to him by Vedas, as he was a Sudra (Chapter 76, Uttarkand) Looking at his hand Rama recited the Sanskrit slogan ‘O, right hand, you kill this Sudra, unhesitatingly as killing the Sudra is the only way to get back the life of deceased Brahmin boy.’ (Valmiki Ramayana). Rama stealthily killed Valli who had done no harm to him, from behind for the sake of Valli’s disloyal brother Sukriv. Rama who had not dared himself to fight face to face with Valli, is hailed as a hero by the ignorant masses and greatly praised by the Brahmins. The bow that was broken by Rama was Shiv’s bow. This bow was already a broken one. (Abhidana sindamani, pages 157, 331, 571,663, 894)

On the other hand Vibishna envious of the sovereignty of his brother Ravana, betrayed him, brought about his death. When Ravana died Vibishna overwhelmed with fraternal feelings fell on the corpse and wept paying tributes to Ravan and describing his nobel qualities and said, ‘you never failed to do justice, you respected the great men.(Chapter 111, Uttarkand) Similarly Hanuman himself described about Ravan’s character that he has not touched any women without her consent. (Chapter 9, Sundar Kand). Ravan fought against deva’s because they in the name of yagya committed the most heinous crime of killing the poor animals in a torturous manner. Ravana carried away Sita to lanka because his sister was tortured and humiliated by Ram. Even at the gravest provocation Ravana, said Valmiki, had not even thought of mutilating the ears, the breast and the nose of Sita as a revenge. Valmiki himself said, ‘Ravan was a good man and magnanimous, but he chastised Brahmins whenever he saw them performing yagya and drinking soma juice.’ (alcohol)

THE CRITICISM OF RELIGION IS THE PREREQUISITE OF ALL CRITICISM – MARX

(Extracts from Periyar’s writing on Hindu Religion)….

“Generally and especially, among the people of Hindus, hardly one person among a thousand has knowledge and that too limited knowledge about what is God, what is proper protection of values, what is religion and what is the moral order or dharma to be followed. There is nothing more degrading than this state of affairs in a society. What do most of these people think about God? Many think God is also having a human form, that he is also having wife, son, parents, place of residence, properties, pleasures: that God also has marriage, nuptials, bedroom, seemantham (a ceremony when the wife is several months pregnant), childbirth, etc. They think that there are thousands of Gods with thousands of names; and devotion to God means nothing but to perform to the figurine of God abhishekam, offerings, worship, showing lighted camphor or conduct festivals and processions. Similarly, when they think of religion, they think Hinduism is applying on the forehead namam, sacred ash, or sandal paste and categorizing each another as high caste and low caste people. They think that conducting festivals, to construct places of rest for those who come to such festivals i.e., construction of mutts, and feeding them is dharma or high moral act. To do these things, they indulge in propagation, perform such activities and spend public money, which they consider as fulfilling and protective.

In the matter of taking food, some think it is sin to eat the flesh of cow. Some think eating the flesh of pig is a sin. Some consider it a sin to partake any form of poultry. Even among the Hindus some say that it is no harm to beat a cow and extract work from it, but it is sin to beat or kill a snake. Some say that no animal should be harmed in any way. Others say that all animals were created just to be consumed by man! What is true in all these? What is God‘s orders? How can one conclude which is sin? If anybody wants to find out by research, the truth about these, he is dubbed as ‗atheist‘, non-believer and is told: ―Why are you concerned with all these? Just lead a life according to what elders (wise men) had said and had lived. If you want to find out who the elders (wise men) are, there is no end to difficulties in coming to a conclusion on that. And if you deeply consider what they said and how they lived, the difficulties and contradictions multiply.

For example, someone will say there is Veda and everybody must follow its dictates. ―If we ask, what is said in it, can we look into it? they say, ―It contains God‘s utterances: it is a sin for you to read and hear it. You just obey what we say. How many Gods could be there in the world! They say there is only one God. In that case, should it not be accepted as such by people all over the world? Why then has God not made it acceptable to Christianity, Islam—, and all other countries in the world to accept it? Therefore, it is a lie to say that God has said this. If someone has to point this, he would be branded as ―Veda Brashta (outlawed by veda). In this way, in the name of Hindu religion, principles contrary to nature, experience, honesty and transparency are abound and are ruining the edifice of a great society. In the name of protecting and administering this, precious time, intelligence and money are squandered. In order to abolish untouchability our friend Gandhi has shouted as much as possible. Collected many lakhs of rupees to achieve that end and handed them over to higher caste or varna people. He was not able to bring about the slightest change. On the other hand, he also supported Gita, manu code, varna system and caste. Today those who are doing service, involved in the abolition of untouchability, 100 out of 100 such gullible people have full belief in and support for Gita and manu code. It is just like trying to fill up a water tank, drawing water from a well using a vessel full of leakage. So, for abolition of untouchability or caste, you must first destroy or abolish your religion. If you are not able to destroy the religion, you must atleast leave that religion. It is a firm position that unless your religion is destroyed, you cannot destroy untouchability or pariahhood.

WHAT’S BEHIND THE UNDEMOCRATIC CIRCULARS UNDER DRACONIAN “LYNGDOH REGIMES”!

STUDENT COMMUNITY MUST FIGHT AGAINST LYNGDOH AND UPHOLD THE JNUSU CONSTITUTION!

It is ridiculous to be blind about the hunter and asking who killed the bird. The same can be applied in the case of recent events in the campus. One overlooks the present socio-economic order while explaining the incidents in the campus whether it is the case of violent attack against a female student, whether it is the caste discrimination against students belonging to backward and lower castes, or excessive charges and fines against the students by hostel warden, the recent draconian circular against protests of all kind. The re-colonisation of India has changed the whole scenario within the campus too. While the campus was much more politically active without elections too, these elections under the Lyngdoh’s regime the campus have increasingly become depoliticized. While capitalist forces have continued their witch-hunting of workers’ movement, we have seen in the case of Maruti workers who were fired by the management for protesting against their exploitation, their right to form the unions is under attack, and the latest interest has been in the destroying ‘organized student’s movements’.It was inevitable as India signed WTO agreements in 1995 and thus began the process of ‘re-colonization’ whereby imperial forces were allowed to loot the natural resources, destroy the working class movement, through Multi-national institutions i.e. world bank in the name of ‘development and growth’, It has also initiated conspiracy against the politically active universities for which the Birla-Ambani Report argues for “obedient” students who should just go to classes, must be apolitical, score good marks and serve the capitalists’ interests. The JNU administration is working under these regimes of neoliberalism and imperialism. Since the Lyngdoh has been garlanded and embraced shamelessly by the ruling organizations in the campus in the guise of “interim measure”, student community has witnessed stark differences in the language of JNUSU.JNU Administration has shown its true face in the case of setting up JNU Press, where no information was shared with JNUSU, and no student representation has been allowed in the management of JNU press. We protest against any collaboration of JNU press with corporate publishers i.e. Cambridge University Press, Oxford Univ. Press or Taylor and Francis etc. It is these corporate publishers who have denied the availability of photocopy of the books (although the photocopy is allowed for educational purposes under Indian copyright Act 1957) under the regimes of ‘monopoly publishing’. The case is pending in the high court. In the last elections, during the presidential speech when one candidate raised our issue of food fascism, the same EC sanctioned it, calling the word “beef” as non-parliamentary. The same GRC (Grievance Redressal Cell) issued show cause notice to presidential candidate for using that so called un parliamentary word. And during the mobilizations against the imposition of Brahmanical food habits, the Procter issued show cause notice to one member of our organization, rusticated another member. Similarly, in the recent JNUSU elections, students who were raising question of the role of Election commission was asked by these ruling organizations as “why are you contesting elections when you don’t believe in Lyngdoh elections” (mark the words, which exposes their “increasing faith in Lyngdoh elections”. Why JNUSU can’t lead the fight against the Lyngdoh?- when the present JNUSU has been formed under the Lyngdoh guidelines’ based elections, it is impossible for the same Union to fight against the privatization and neoliberal assaults on the student community.  Now JNUSU has been transformed (or degenerated) into a “negotiating body/managing body” from an union for leading struggles and fighting against the administration’s dictats. Thus, when these organizations have accepted the “Lyngdoh Committee’s mantras”, what are we expecting from them?

We call the radical and progressive organizations, and individuals, of this campus to come forward and fight firmly for upholding the JNUSU Constitution ( which had been buried down three elections back) and fight against Lyngdoh in every possible manner.

May Day! This is the day which obtained rights for the majority of the people in this world. A day which proved that struggles and sacrifices are the only ways to conquer the rights denied to us. Some think that this is just a day for workers, and it has nothing to do with us. That is not true at all! You might be joining in any profession, but the rights enjoyed at present – the salary, the eight-hour workday, leaves, work-safety, and all other rights – are not given just like that by all-merciful and beloved employers. The working class fought relentlessly and won each of these basic rights by making employers bow down to their demands.

The working class which retrieved their basic rights in factories, is the class which directed the socialist revolution for the liberating the humankind. Importance of this day does not decline because there are no socialist camps in the world today; the importance, in fact, has increased. The global hegemony of the US and re- colonisation process is dominating and exploiting the entire world politically, socially and economically. Its war of aggression is ever increasing to serve its hysteric rage for establishing its dominance over every inch of this world. In many countries including Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and Pakistan, thousands and thousands of men, women and children are being brutally murdered for this insane cause.

As far as India is concerned, multinational giants and the comprador bourgeois have joined hands to plunder the both human and natural resources of our nation. Nation’s fate is being re-written to satisfy their hysteric rage for profits. Even the fewer rights which the workers were enjoying a few years back were snatched away, and are being continuously divided into contract and permanent workers while contract workers are increasing day by day!! Number of special economic zones – which are exclusive territories ruled by the bourgeois where only slaves live – are on the rise. In the name of making India a super power, comprador bourgeoisies like Tata, Ambani and Mittal have not only brought the economy of our nation under their fold, but the government is also devising policies to allow these corporate to conduct their plunder legally. During every election, almost every hooliganist vote-bank political party is throwing promises about freebies to people. Did any of these bourgeois parties, even by mistake, mention that they would “enforce salary, bonus and other rights in strict accordance with the labour act (though that is existing just for namesake)!” Did any one of them utter a word about “recognizing the right of the workers to form union in accordance with the Labour Union Act of 1926”? Do any of these parties have guts to say that they will punish any employer who breaches this right conferred to the employees by law? NONE!! Freebies without rights are equivalent to a dead body. It is not just workers; even the other sections of the working population have lost their life and are made nomads. Corporate plunderers who are conducting such a brutal and inhuman day-light robbery, and the ‘process of re-colonization’ which has set a stage to carry out the atrocities are the factors responsible for this; it is extremely urgent and tremendously important to wage a violent struggle against them to liberate people.

The New Materialists calls upon all the students to observe May Day as a day of struggle and strong determination for the fight against the semi-feudal, brahminical elements. This day reminds us of our political and social duties and responsibilities and we call upon the students to kick-off your political journey on this day. 5^th May, the birthday of revolutionary communist of Karl Marx, who inspired many to fight and overthrow the capitalist social order not just by philosophizing about it but by practicing a revolutionary politics. The New Materialists stand in solidarity with the ongoing struggle of the thousands of students’ of various educational institutions in Tamil Nadu, which is being neglected criminally by the nationalist parties and media. Students, lawyers and people from all walks of life, are organizing sit-in-protests, indefinite hunger strikes as well as demonstrations in various parts of Tamil Nadu. The government has instructed the colleges and university authorities to shut down for an indefinite time to suppress the voices of people. Students are continuing their indefinite hunger strikes for seven consecutive days. Human rights activists say that more than 40,000 Tamil civilians were killed in Srilanka. The  proposed meeting of the UNHRC (United Nations Human Rights Council) where the UN will demand an inquiry for the ‘war crime’ that happened in Sri Lanka. After the British media Channel 4 revelations, we demand that the enquiry of the ‘genocide’ in Sri Lanka during 2009, should include Indian state’s role along with Sri Lanka government as perpetrators of violence against Eelam people. It has been three years since the genocide on Eelam people, none of the criminals have been brought to justice. We reject the US sponsored resolution, which is merely an eyewash and demand for an independent inquiry by an International Tribunal against the Rajapaksa government and the Indian government and their armies. The Inquiry should not be less than the nature of the Nuremberg trial. We condemn the demands of political parties in Tamil Nadu to support USA resolution which nowhere questions the role of the Indian government in the genocide that happened in Sri Lanka. We demand the Eelam people in Sri Lanka should be allowed for their self-determination rights and it should be recognized by an international body and the community.

We appeal to all the progressive forces of this campus to support the struggle of Tamil people, students, lawyers, workers for the cause of democracy, humanity and justice.

       

Rape: A National Shame - Muted Voices from Haryana

In Haryana, statistics show, more than three-forth of sexual crimes committed are against the Dalit women.  It is also important to note that majority of them were gang-rape attacks committed by dominant caste-fury upper caste gangs. FIRs are filed and accused are arrested in just in one or two of these cases, that too only after unrelenting demonstrations and struggles by Dalit people and democratic organisations.

Caste-based violence against the Dalits, impudence of dominant castes, female foeticide and infanticide, Khap panchayats with perverse pride and patriarchal arrogance and dominance which are fully supported and backed by vote-bank political parties and government machinery – this is the true face of Haryana and this has come to light several times in the past. While there are more than 15 Dalit women were subjected to gang-rape by the mobs of dominant Jat community in the month of September, Sonia had chosen to visit the family of a girl who committed suicide after being gang-raped by a Dalit mob. This cannot be brushed aside as just another consolation drama; this is where the cruelty and cunningness of the ruling class lies. By enacting a few minutes of consolation drama ruling class succeeded in projecting those crimes against women are there in every community; in one master stroke, she also acquitted Haryana government saying that sexual offences are not specific to Haryana but something that is prevalent all over the country.

Adding insult to the wound, the local Congress leader Dharamveer Goyal said, “90 per cent of such incidents were consensual”. After conveniently forgetting that many of those involved in the crime are married men, the Khap Panchayat proposes the idea getting the youth married at an early age to stop them from straying. Om Prakash Chautala, the ex-Chief Minister of State, who endorsed this idea of the panchayat at first, reverted back later after it caused a furore. The bourgeois intellectuals project the lower sex ratio as one of the primary reasons for the crime. Rapes are prevalent even in areas where the sex ratio is better; reason for poor sex ratio in Haryana is because of the illegal female foeticide and infanticide by patriarchal, feudalistic, regressive families – Are they aware of these facts or just want to ignore them?

The ruling Congress government has gone a step ahead and carrying out a deceitful propaganda by projecting this is a “political conspiracy against the government”. The State DGP Ranjiv Singh Dalal is throwing statistics on our face saying that the number of rape cases this year in Haryana has reduced by 80, compared to 2011. The Inspector of Hissar district argues that Dalit women being raped by the people of dominant caste are a rare occurrence. The Sub-inspector of Police of Kohana reinvents an age old patriarchal theory of “exposing costumes” as a cause for increase in crime rate. By doing all this, the state government is trying to project this, just as a law and order problem and not as an issue of casteism and patriarchy.

But hundreds of evidence are available to prove that the Khap panchayats have intervened in almost all cases of rape crime committed by dominant caste and have acquitted or trying to acquit the accused. In one of the cases in Hissar district- Dabra village, where a 16-year old Dalit girl has been gang-raped, the Khap panchayat is protecting one of accused Sunil, belonging to the dominant Jat community. When police produced Sunil in front of the affected girl as part of the identification parade, she, under the compulsion of Khap panchayat, even refuses to identify him. Khap Panchayat also decided not to permit any outsiders or press persons inside the village to witness the proceedings; it is also said that the Inspector of Police was also present in that meeting.

 “There is no fear of the law in Haryana,” says Hisar-based advocate Rajat Kalsan, fighting the Dabra case involving the rape of a 16-year-old Dalit girl. “That’s because most of the administrative machinery, the state police and the judiciary are dominated by people whose relatives have a major hold on panchayats in the state. The Jats have terrorised the Dalits and backward castes and have become a law onto them.”  “Police always lodges the FIR. After that, when we arrest the perpetrators, the panchayat intervenes and presses for an out-of-court settlement,” says another Sub Inspector, Saurabh Singh, Jind disrict. “If the case somehow reaches the courts, then witnesses from the village turn hostile. In some cases, witnesses whose statements were recorded before the magistrate do not even turn up for the first hearing under pressure from the panchayats,” he adds. Accused are being punished in less than 13% of all the cases that reach the court, shows statistics. This statistics and the statement by the Inspector of police confirm the accusation of Rajat Kalsan.

In the Dabra gang-rape case which happened on 9^th of September, the accused captured the incident in their mobile phone and also shared it with others. Unable to bear this shame, father of the victim committed suicide. Police filed FIR in this case only after the Dalit people staged a protest saying that they would not be cremating the body unless the criminals are arrested. Even here, the police tried to include some of the Dalit youth into the list of accused by misrepresenting the statement given by the victim – but their attempt was exposed. Just a day after Sonia’s visit and consolation drama, a married Dalit woman was raped by two men from dominant caste. Police subjected the girl’s character and conduct to question because of the fact that the accused are known to the girl and they have also spoken to her on her cell phone just before the incident; by doing so, their objective is to protect the criminals. It is also important to understand that no police men would be booked under criminal or Prevention of Atrocities Act, for their action in favour of the dominant caste accused.

In every panchayat one hears an axiom narrated with pride by the landlords: “If a Jat has not had sex with his siri’s (farm labour’s) wife and daughter, then he is not worthy of calling himself a Jat”, a very telling commentary on the prevailing mindset in the state. They are not just feudal or land lords – using privatization, they have also emerged as a new elite rich. It is this regressive, feudalistic mob that is minting money by becoming real estate brokers and contractors who procure land and supply manpower for the multinational corporations. Their perversion and casteist arrogance against the Dalits is increasing in the same proportion to the rise in circulation of money with them. Increase in the number of sexual atrocities from 386 in 2004, to 733 in 2011 (nearly double) should be looked-at in this backdrop.

In cases where the dominant caste is involved in the rape of a Dalit woman, capturing the heinous incident on the mobile phones and sharing it with others has become a trend and such a trend is on the rise. They are neither ashamed, nor they are looking their behaviour as a crime. They consider it as an act for establishing their masculinity and dominance against Dalits. All these conclusively prove that these attacks on the Dalits are not out of sexual provocation but are related to the casteist arrogance. Khap panchayat is protecting not only the criminals who were involved in sexual atrocities against the Dalits; they are also playing a vital role in shielding those criminals who murder the newly wed couples in the name of ‘honour killing’. The vote-bank political parties are on the forefront for protecting such an illegal, anti-social and regressive khap panchayats.

In such a situation, can anyone believe that there is even a remotest possibility for attaining justice in this country? Some Dalit youth from Narvana Village has hunted down the criminals themselves – is it more feasible way to attain justice? These incidents expose the Capitalist and semi feudal features of Haryana.

Deceitful Bible, the retaliating Science

30 June 1860. Oxford University campus in England was flooded with people. The whole campus was vibrant with scholars arriving from various countries, the feudal, who were whispering amongst themselves in anxiety, the crowd engaged in loud conversations about the upcoming great debate. There is a reason for this exuberance at the Oxford’s. The book titled ‘On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection’ released by Charles Darwin during that time had created storm in England. Even the bible was not able to withstand this storm created by this small book of just 230 pages.  The Christian priests vehemently objected the book questioning the words of God. They challenged Darwin’s supporters if they were ready for a public debate.  Huxly and Hookar arrived at the Oxford campus duty‐bound to liberate science from the clutches of religion. Content with knowledge, supporters of Darwin’s theory, Thomas Henry Huxley and Joseph Dalton Hooker, were sitting on one corner of the stage. Seated in front of them majestically, with his head held high, was bishop Samuel Wilberforce. Surrounding him in white robes were disciples of the Lord who were racking their brain to face the debate. The debate commenced. Holding the Cross in his hand, the Bishop kissed Bible, adjusted his throat, and began his speech. “Dear people, in the name of the Father I pray to you. Charles Darwin, an incarnation of Satan, shamelessly says that you all descended from a monkey. Your fathers and forefathers, who tendered you with love, care and affection, were all monkeys – are you going to accept this? What answer do these disciples of monkey have for my question? Whether it was through his grandfather or his grandmother that he claims to have descended from a monkey?” With the satisfaction of making enough fun, he went back to his seat after finally asserting that Darwin’s research is against the doctrines of Holy Bible.

In the midst of applauding crowd, who were overwhelmed by the ‘sacred’ principles, Huxley, a disciple of Darwin got up to speak. How courageous a person should be to speak the truth, in the midst of people infuriated by religious sentiments? Huxley tolerated all the agony to draw people out from the dark cave of religion to the light of science. He spoke in detail about Darwin’s research. He succeeded in making at least half the crowd accept the truth. The debate came to an end. But the storm raised by Darwin did not subside. Crude believers of bible threw stones at monkeys and shooed them away. In England’s Churches, devotees were dressed in black; they threw Darwin’s book down under their feet and pledged to protect sacred principles of god from satanic Darwin.

AD 1950 – The ‘spectre of communism’ was haunting the European countries. The Pope Pius XII warns about it and pledges to protect the sacred principles from the Communist satans; he said “We are not opposing the principles of evolution; but materialists and atheists are using it to hide the role of God who created this world. It was God, who created the organic source from which man has descended”. He uttered these words and attained heavendom.

AD 1996 – In an October 22, 1996, address to the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, Pope John Paul II says “it is not necessary that God created man straightaway. It can be accepted that man was created by God in the process of evolution. In fact it is remarkable that Darwin’s theoretical findings in the previous century have had progressively greater influence on the spirit of researchers, following a series of discoveries in different scholarly disciplines. But the words Pope Pius gracefully uttered that ‘God is the source for everything’ is something very important”.

Mr. Pope! Why should you act as if you are accepting a portion of the words of Satan that you profaned 137 years back? None can be more knowledgeable than you on what Bible says about the creation of this universe.

“God, after creating this universe in the first five days, created Adam and Eve on the sixth and rested on the seventh day.” It was the workers, after so much of struggle and sacrifice, won the right for having every seventh day as a holiday. We have no objection in attributing the workers’ hard‐won right to your god. But if you accept even a portion of Darwin’s theory of evolution, it would make the first chapter of bible wrong. So that should be changed! ‘No. Nothing needs to be changed’, says Vatican’s spokesperson Francis Maniscalco who paraphrases Pope’s statements. He says Pope’s statement should neither be misunderstood as something that was said in the capacity of religious leader nor should be considered as a doctrine. We understand! Why this double cross?

When scientists were requesting your recognition for the truths they had revealed, you shunned them. Now, right from sending spacecrafts to the moon, to internet and computer, none of the scientists are yearning for your recognition. But, you need science to keep the religion alive and to renovate according to circumstances prevailing. Are you even faintly honest with yourselves? Reasonable and just thing the church to do is to accept the all the sins with a sense of guilt and seek pardon for mistreating scientists all these years; and provide assurance that such mistakes will not recur! Church has always been enjoying the miracles of science while propagating ‘miracles’ of god; at the same time arrogantly insulted science to defend the glory of god. Such insolence and double‐deal of the church is not new and has a long history.

Science has falsified the illusion created by religious fanatics that men can have a joyful life only in heaven; science has enabled everything needed for a joyful life by accomplishing all sorts of miracles on earth. From radio of yester years to computer of our times, its achievements are still continuing. The scientific facts underlying all these magnificent scientific‐technical achievements were the contributions of scientists of yester‐century. These great men were roaming in the forests, land and sea to unravel the mysteries of nature. They strained their body and mind, and fought tirelessly to establish the facts they had unravelled. They sacrificed themselves at the gallows to release mankind from the clutches of the religion.

These are people with dynamic thinking and heart for struggle; and Engels points out them as the “greatest human beings”. Each and every drop of blood they shed helped in the giant leap of science. The human race of the twentieth century is alive upon the lost lives of these great souls. Citizens of the modern world should be ashamed and should fume with anger when they learn about the ill‐treatment that the pope and church have rendered to these great souls. During the last century, James Young Simpson invented Chloroform, which is used while performing medical surgery and during child birth to lessen a patient’s pain. The priests opposed this vehemently saying that there is no evidence in Bible for this. Quoting a sentence from bible, “...with pain you will give birth to children” [Genesis 3:16] they insisted that mother’s love towards the child will be intact only when they give birth in pain – and opposed usage of chloroform during child birth.

The process of classification and storage of blood saves millions and millions of lives today. Michael Servetus, a scientist was burnt alive for the ‘crime’ of conducting research on human blood. It was Calvin, a protestant priest, who granted this punishment to protect the holiness of god. The evangelists are flying all over the world to spread the grace of the Lord and to evangelise. Church’s satellites are showering the message of the lord continuously over the “round earth”. Kiardano Bruno who said that the earth is round was burnt alive by the catholic priests. Copernicus who wrote a book about his findings relating to planets and their rotation did not release his book for 36 years fearing the rage of the church. He released his book only when he was in his deathbed. Galileo, who found out that the earth is rotating around the sun, was tortured by the church; his assets were confiscated. Because of this Galileo had to accept the ‘truths’ mentioned in the Bible about the earth and had to deny his own findings. Christian priests called the telescope invented by Galileo as an satan’s instrument.

AD 370 A troop of priests headed by archbishop Cyril ransacked and burnt the library and museum which was built with enormous amount of hard work. They also tortured and burnt the lady astronomer, philosopher and scientist Hypatia who was heading that library. Of the blood stained history of church, these are just a few drops. Number of sins collectively committed by these priests would be much higher when compared to their own number. It is science, and not the bible, that has enabled the luxurious life that these priests are leading and immeasurable amount of wealth that they are enjoying. With his stooped back, Darwin would be observing the earthworm for hours together. Simson fell unconscious innumerable number of times as he used his own body to test the anaesthetic drug that he had invented. Galileo forgot about his own well‐being. Copernicus was talking about the planetary systems even when he was in his deathbed. Bruno did not accept the stupidity of the bible even when he was burnt alive. Did these people sacrifice themselves on the hope that the church would recognise them in future?

Preachers...now tell us who are the sinners and who are satans? You priests are sleeping in an air‐conditioned room, have high‐class wine in the morning, swallow a full‐sized fried chicken, wear a white silk robe, get on to a car, reach the church and open your mouth in front of the herd with an acescent belch. This is the kind of ‘evangelical duty’ that you preachers have been performing for the past two thousand years. Are you worth even a grain of sand underneath the feet of our great scientists? You denied the truths invented by scientists and destroyed the lives of a number of them. Are you not ashamed of using in your life, the same science that you denied? Are you not ashamed of using the inventions of scientists that you tortured and killed? We should not be charged with any kind of criminal offence if we take all the priests in a Boing 707 and push them down from the top of Himalayas. Because it was the church which declared Newton as a lunatic when he discovered the law of gravity. The statement about accepting the theory of evolution was released by Pope only when he was absconding for three years for appendicitis operation at Vatigan. Probably the ghosts of Simpson and Servetus appeared in front of Pope to complain! What would have happened if scientists denied chloroform and blood during pope’s medical surgery? Scientific morality does not allow that; your graceful and merciful god’s morality does! It looks like the ten years training imparted for the clergymen are for displaying a deceptive innocence in their face even after learning about such a blood‐tainted history.

Marx once said “Christianity’s great saint (Jesus Christ) sacrificed his own body for the liberation of souls of the people. The modern, educated saints (the Christian clergymen) are sacrificing the bodies of people for liberating their own soul”. When the scientists, who are servants of the people, invented ways and methods to protect life, the servants of God invented the gallows.That’s why we are doubtful if Pilate, who ordered killing of Jesus Christ, is a forefather of these clergymen today. The priestly cliques throw forgiveness to millions around the world each Sunday; but who would forgive their own sins which they have been committing for the past two‐thousand years? Will they just exchange the sins and forgiveness amongst themselves? What does bible say about this?

The so‐called guardians of morality are launching a final offensive: “advancement in science has resulted in increasing incidents of immorality and indiscipline in the world”. If we say “Adam is made out of clay” it is ‘moral’ whereas discovery of law of evolution is immoral. If we say “earth is flat” it is ‘moral’ whereas discovering its spherical nature is immoral. That is: ‘Lies’ and ‘nonsense’ are moral whereas ‘truth’ and ‘rationality’ are immoral. They are screaming that Christianity was cruelly suppressed in countries of the erstwhile socialist regime, because they were not allowed to preach this kind of ‘morality’. It is this victory to their ‘morality’ that the guards of new testament are celebrating in association with church and America, a god unto itself. This blood‐filled history is not just that of Christianity. The bhraministic Hinduism and Islam, just like they have their own holy books, have installed their own gallows.

Allah, who has infinite mercy and unmatched love, with whose name Quran begins, has more than 35 special names. One of them is ‘An‐nadeer’ – meaning ‘to threaten and warn’. In bible, God created the world in six days. In Quran, Allah created world in six stages. God created this Adam with clay. Allah created Adam with baked clay. The time difference between bible and Quran is 557 years.

Six centuries prior to learning from Quran about how god created us, Dravidians of Indus valley civilization created god with the help of baked clay!! Brahmins who have the story of dasavathara handy do not care about philosophy of creation. What about Darwin’s law of evolution…? It might be a stolen material from the manuscripts of Sarfoji’s library in Tanjore. The Saivites vehemently deny this statement. They claim that its Shiva who created lord Vishnu, who is the hero of Dasavathara. But there is a philosophy in ‘Purusha sooktham’ which all of them accept without any differences. If at all, say, they accept the Darwin’s philosophy, they would require four different monkeys classified into four different groups. Scientists would definitely succeed in driving god out of this whole universe; there is not even an iota of doubt about it. But, driving out the ‘agents of god’ is a much harder a task than driving out god itself. Scientists will not be able to do it. We need social scientists for it. Yes, we need to do it Communists!

He who created god was a fool! He who propagates god is a scoundrel! He who worships god is a barbarian!!
