REJECT LIBERALISATION, PRIVATISATION - FDI! What is the right direction for the solution???

The aura created by the ruling class about Manmohan as the most honest man in Indian politics got severely damaged with the revelation of coalgate scam. The evidences in coalgate show how coal blocks were allocated inadvertently and clearly point fingers at Manmohan. Prior to coalgate, a number of scams were coming out in public – the 2G Spectrum, Delhi Airport scam, TATA-Ambani power stations scam, Maharashtra irrigation scam, CWG scam, Adarsh, Lavasa, so on and so forth – all these exposed how strong the nexus between congress & corporate is. Revelation of each and every scam damaged the image of ‘the honest man’ further and further. On the other side, the Times Magazine in the US had criticized Manmohan as ‘underachiever’ for not being bold enough in implementing liberalization measures such as permitting FDI in retail, insurance, PF etc. The rating agencies have also played their part by reducing the rating of Indian economy for hastening the liberalization measures. Finally received a warning from Obama too!
A complicated situation of this kind has been managed by Manmohan with the precision and knack of a seasoned criminal. The tactics can be compared to that of a chain snatcher who would not hesitate even to cut the throat of the woman from who the chain is snatched, to prevent her from making noise. A number of grenades were thrown upon the people one after the other – starting from opening up of FDI in retail, increase in diesel prices, reducing subsidized gas cylinders, sale of stake in public sector companies; this “shock and awe” strategy followed by Manmohan has shown expected results – scams took a back seat in the people’s memory. In one of the meetings of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Manmohan has delivered a heroic (!!!) speech – “If we have to go down, we will go down fighting”. He has shown a similar courage once earlier too – that was during signing of “Indo-US Nuclear agreement” in the year 2008. “We are not worried about the withdrawal of support by left / right communist parties; we are determined about signing the deal” he thundered.
A person who was mocked by BJP as a weak prime minister, and who claimed himself as ‘accidental prime minister’ has become undefeatable stronger in a situation where he is being attacked by a number of accusations from all directions. Media claim that the strength of Manmohan lies in the weakness of other political parties. All parties including BJP are stuck in a deep mess – with a number of scams and party in-fighting; media claim that this is the source of strength of Manmohan government. This is a very simplified and superfluous view. The fact is that both congress and the other parties which claim to be the ‘enemies of congress’ are all ‘stuck’ in the same policy – and this is the source which makes Congress stronger , even in a situation where it does not have a majority of its own. To put it in other words “inability of opposition parties to suggest an alternative policy to that of the neo-liberal policies of Congress” has made Manmohan stronger.
Government was well aware that there would be protests opposing such fanatic neo-liberal attacks. Government was also aware that they would all come to an end soon. Government’s expectation is that when all the announcements are made together, everything would get over with only one bandh; and ‘everything’ got over as expected. DMK, which is part of the government, participated in the bandh; ADMK and TMC, which claim to be opposing FDI actually deployed police forces to defeat the bandh. The TMC which is acting as if it is opposing the FDI had mentioned in 2009 election manifesto that it would welcome FDI. When some media persons pointed this out, Mamta brushed it aside saying that it is a printing mistake. All political parties, without an exception, are embracing LPG while in power; after getting defeated and when sitting as opposition parties, they ‘act’ as if they are opposing it. This wonderful drama of political parties is not new – this has been going on for the past 20-odd years. The sovereign authority gained because of peoples’ vote is being abused for fulfilling the promises given to the Multi-nationals. Then calling this political system as ‘democratic’ is also a printing mistake!!
All political parties from BJP to the Congress are compelled to act and talk against LPG to satisfy their electorate and for their own political mileage. The BJP which has small traders as its base claims that it opposes Walmart. The left and right communist parties which are thriving out of the levies provided by the Unions in PSUs (Public Sector Units) are making big noises against privatization of PSUs. Wherever people, who are impacted by the effects of LPG, come together to stage a protest or demonstration, all political parties would appear there. They would make big speeches opposing ‘everything under the sun’ – right from LPG, US, central government, state government, and would leave from there in search of next platform for making their speech. None of the party cadres would be aware about what their leaders are supporting. Not only that, the ‘heroic verses’ of the leaders will not have any role in even in deciding the next electoral alliance - that is very important. The party which would come to power next is not going to reverse the diesel price hike or withdraw permission given for FDI in retail. It is all about which party is going to pocket the discontent and anger of the people created by the price rise; ‘politics’ is being conducted in such an interesting manner that even the people who are watching it would enjoy. People are so used to it that they have started accepting this as a normal and acceptable practice. Privatization and Liberalization is not just a policy that all the political parties are supporting; it is the base for their own sustenance.
Right from top layer like Pawars, Gatkaris, Vadras to the lowest cadres who are thriving out of the income out of contracts, agencies, real estate dealings – the nexus of capitalist corruption; all are being “gratified” from LPG. In each sq.ft of coal that is dugout, and in each gallon of petroleum sucked out by Ambani – name of constables to IG, district collector, Munsif to the judge of SC, district secretary to the PM are embossed invisibly. These are the people who hold this system. Anyone who says that the LPG policy can be defeated with the help of these people is either insane are they want to make those who are listening insane. LPG is the policy devised by world capitalism and imperialism to overcome the structural difficulties that it is facing and to continue expansion of its policies. Through corruption neoliberal imperialist forces create the smoke screen across the world. We are witnessing that the constitution and policies of our nation are being modified so as to fit the needs of imperialism. It is impossible to change or stop these policies through this existing set of political setup, political parties, and court of law and also from ‘reformation’.
Trying to find a solution by standing inside this system is futile. Solution lies in organizing mass struggles outside this system, in order to hit and demolish this existing neoliberal imperial structure and to establish a New Democratic society.
There are people who argue that this is not possible immediately; they also suggest that we should settle for a workable and opportune solution. NGOs, intellectuals and pseudo-communists are all saying this, but in their own language. They say that there is a better and ‘just’ solution other than capitalism and communism; they act as if they are in a kind of penance to catch hold of ‘that’ elusive solution. Capitalist and imperial alliance produces knowledge production which shapes the ‘common sense’. UPA-II is just another agent of this alliance and willy-nilly introducing FDI, banking bill etc. and the opposition is just like a ‘barking dog’. The present state of Neoliberal attacks on India needs to be understood as surrender of sovereignty, beginning of recolonisation process which can be changed only through a New Democratic revolution.

LET US REMEMBER THE DAY OF NOVEMBER REVOLUTION!

Capitalism kills!                                                                                        Communism triumphs!

Let us remember the day of November Revolution!

November 7, 1917:
A day when the working class proved that they are capable of not just working, but are capable of ruling a nation!
A day when the oppressing class was defeated and political authority of the working class was established!
A day which introduced the concept of Socialism (a paradise on earth, as against the heaven that is being promised by religion to keep them oppressed) to the working masses!
That is the day of Russian Revolution!
Let us remember that this is the real day of celebrations for the common working people!

The first Socialist government in the world was established by Russian Communist Party, under the proletarian leadership of great teacher Comrade Lenin. This Socialist government fulfilled all basic needs - food, clothing, shelter, hygiene and water etc - for all its citizens; it also ensured education and employment for all. That is the first time ever in human history that a government was able to achieve this.

What is the situation in our country?

Prices of essential commodities are ever increasing. Factories are closed and workers are being thrown out onto the streets. Thousands and thousands of farmers are committing suicide and many more die of starvation. As education is commercialized, children of the poor remain illiterate as they are not able to attend school. In the name of Special Economic Zones this whole country is being sold to multinational companies to satiate their rage for profit. In India LPG model was adopted in 1991, exactly at a time when the Mandal Commission announced reservations for OBC’s.  this is a catch behind introducing privatization and policies of de-regulation so that whatever is “lost”(for upper castes) through ‘reservation policies’ was “snatched back” by reducing the size of state owned firms, factories, education institutions, government jobs etc. as there is no policy of reservation in private sectors. The recent 2006 reservations in Central Higher Educational Institutions Act, was again to pacify the backward and deprived sections of societies, in order to safeguard their policies of ‘dis-investment’, ‘allowing foreign universities to open their campuses’ etc. Thus the Indian state is more than clever in exploiting the OBC’s as well as Dalits through different ways. When Dalits are fighting for their rights in South India, they are being termed as ‘Dalit Terrorists’. Indian state is ready to deprive off the livelihood of 4.5 crore small traders by allowing FDI in retail, in order to safeguard the ever increasing profit of multinational retailers like Walmart. By allowing FDI in Insurance and PF, red carpet welcome is being extended to multinational and Indian comprador bourgeois to plunder the hard-earned savings of people. Manmohan clique is also butchering people in the name of cut in subsidy, by restricting number of gas cylinders allowed per family, increasing the prices of petrol, diesel and all other essential commodities. On the other hand both the central and state governments are providing lakhs of crores of rupees as subsidies to multinational companies and Indian comprador bourgeois. The Congress government of Manmohan – Sonia - Chidambaram clique is unleashing a civil war upon people using police and army forces and is brutally suppressing those who are fighting against these atrocities.

What is the reason for all these?

The recolonisation policy of privatization – globalization – liberalization that is being willingly and whole-heartedly implemented by this government is the cause for all these ills. This policy not only pushes people to death but is colonizing (enslaving) the whole nation.
This torture does not end with working classes, OBC’s, Dalits, and landless labourers, minorities of India alone, the working people of poor nations all over the world are being subjected to this cruelty. Getting rid of this should be the first and foremost duty of the socially and economically backward sections of the world. Let us join hands to put an end to the exploitation of capitalism, casteism and religion and recolonisation. Let us be like a Morningstar for the people of South Asia. Let us organize ourselves under the leadership of Naxalbari to wage a war of freedom against recolonisation. Let us give a deadly blow to the multinational imperialists, Indian comprador bourgeois and upper castes hegemony. Let us accomplish social freedom through New Democratic Revolution.

Let us take an oath to accomplish the same on this day of November Revolution!

WHY BEEF AND PORK FOOD FESTIVAL IN JNU??

Comrades, we have recently seen the Janmastami celebrations in JNU by right wing and casteist forces i.e. ABVP and NSUI in many places of JNU. Celebration of the Hindu festivals (in the name of celebrating Culture) is the act of enhancing and strengthening the caste system. Krishna, the god of Hindus who propagated Varna system in Bhagavadgita was an eve teaser and womanizer was celebrated and on the other hand, is shown as role model though he was the symbol of Patriarchy. Thus Celebrating Janmastami is the celebration of patriarchy and Varna system. When the Durga pooja celebration was made as a proposal there was a tough resistance from the progressive forces. But now the scenario has changed. Every party engaged in vote bank politics does not want to raise the issue of celebrating Hindu festivals in the supposed Secular campus, where even the Bhang (prepared from the leaves of Cannabis plant, which is banned in many countries) is allowed in mess during Holi. If this is the case, why no Beef and Pork is available in any single dhaba at JNU? Celebrating other minority festivals is different from celebrating Hindu festivals. Here in Hindu religion, the festivals are celebrated to continue the system of Brahminical order of caste system. But we have also seen a mysterious silence by the official left organizations in this campus regarding the Janmastami celebration and in the issue of beef and pork. Their vote bank politics and the brahminical nature might have stopped them from coming out openly against Janmastami celebration and in support of beef and pork issue. When we successfully conducted the public meeting on “The politics of food culture – The Holy cow and the unholy Swine” we saw the support of progressive students of this campus in a large number. In this situation a question arises of what is the need of conducting a food festival particularly of beef and pork. Why should we celebrate openly? Why it is in the educational institutions? Why at JNU?
When we asked many of the so called comrades about the celebration of beef and pork festival, they said that celebrating beef and pork festival is a sentimental issue. They advised us to cook beef or pork in our rooms and they promised us to join. So cooking beef and pork is in room is not sentimental but openly celebrating is problematic for them. Because the public sphere only belongs to the hegemonic culture that is Brahmanism. In India the public space is not yet public i.e. not for Muslims, Buddhists, Christians or any other religion but only for Hinduism. The Public space in India is private space for Hindu Brahminical forces and thus nobody else can enter into this “public space”. All the beef shops in India in many of the cities including Hyderabad are pushed into interior areas. Now the democratic space in India is shrinking and JNU as an institution is not an exception to it. Public Space is a powerful space that it should be characterized by the participation of all kinds of culture, all kinds of beliefs and all kinds of communities. The so called modern India is only an institutional India and that institutional India is brahminical as well. The newly constructed institutional India is only for the Brahminical culture and not for others. That is the reason that the fight with the brahminical forces is more bitter and tougher in the institutions. The Institutions are the place where the caste and communal become consolidated, as a ploy of the ruling class. Outside society is more progressive than the institutions.
Regarding Pork eating, last time we have seen a posters in the name of “Students against Beef and Pork” but posted by the Hindu fundamentalists forces. Here comes the question why they are so concerned about Pork? Because they are afraid that allowing pork will lead to beef also. When Prof. Kancha Iliah put a question towards the Muslim students that do they have any problem if students cook pork in the campus, in single voice all of them said “NO”. Pork is already served in this campus in “The North East Festivals” and “International Food Festivals”. So the Muslim friends do not have any problem in cooking pork in this campus, but the Hindu fundamentalists forces have. We should be very careful about the ploy of the Hindu fundamentalist’s forces that suddenly turned in to a godfather of supporting the right of the minorities. This is the foul play to separate the progressive forces and the minorities. We should be aware of it and should not give any chance to achieve their motive. So celebrating beef and pork eating is not a simple act of eating beef and pork in the institutions but as a symbolic act against the hegemony of Brahminism as Babasaheb Ambedkar took water from the pond was not a simple act of drinking water but to challenge the hegemony of caste system. This is to break the hegemony of Brahminism in the campus of JNU.

THE POLITICS OF FOOD CULTURE “The Holy Cow and the Unholy Swine”

Hegemonic ideas of one group over another have always been a part of the class and caste oppression. Even food, which is the basic means of existence, is not devoid of it, especially so when we look at "the Politics of food culture in India". The so called secular Indian state though ideally should not discriminate against nor support any particular caste, creed, religion, race, gender, yet it makes a mockery of the very ideas that it promises to uphold. Coming to the question of food culture how does the Indian state justify its intervention in the food culture. Even when we look at our own campus, both beef and pork are considered as taboos. At this juncture we see a politics of silence from the progressive political parties of this campus who otherwise claim to fight for multiculture and democratic space of this campus. The Brahminical left in this campus in the name of secularism supports every religion instead of critiquing it. As Marx said, “Religion is the opium for the masses” the Indian Parliamentary left comfortably forgets this for their vote bank of the Majority Hindus and Minority Muslims. Secularism is not about celebrating Durga Pooja and participating in the Iftar Party, as the Indian Parliamentary left as well as the Bourgeois Parties do.  The three pillars which support the caste system are Brahminism, Religion, and the concept of God, (Periyar EVR) where the Indian parliamentary left is satisfied with attacking only the caste atrocities and upto an extent of attacking the Brahminism for sake of rising slogans.

Why pork is not available inside the JNU campus even in North East Dhaba? The Brahminical left in this campus scared of losing minority Muslim vote banks in their politics. On the other hand they only bring AFSPA and Irom Sharmila during the period of elections to show their support to North East as an eye wash and to get votes. But did they do anything literally to save the culture of North east as well as other parts of India inside this campus? Pork Eating is one of the integral cultural practices of North East and beef also except in the brahminised regions of North East. If JNU campus is a multicultural campus why only particular culture is hegemonizing the other Indian cultures and also with the support of the Brahminical mainstream Indian Left? The question of beef and pork eating is not only an issue of right to food but also comfortable for the working class to have inexpensive and high protein content to compensate their loss of energy. None of the Indian peasants want to kill their cows when it is profitable by way of giving milk. When the cow becomes old and useless, they cannot simply maintain it as it is unaffordable to them. In that time they sell it for butchering, not like the western countries which grow cows only for cow meat. Farmers, Dalits, Backward castes, Urban poor today prefers to eat inexpensive beef rather than going for the sky racketing vegetables, pulses and mutton. Denying these people’s right to go for their cheap food is literal Fascism.

The God of Rig Veda Indra had eaten tons of beef as said by many hymns in Rig Veda. The author of Ramayana Valmiki welcomed his guests by offering beef. The four Vedas said that the cow killed in ‘Goumeda’ yagya is sacred and should be shared among Brahmins respective of their status. Brahmins can eat the meat of the cow which was killed in the Yagya for the welfare of the world. Yagnyavalkya “mouthwaterly” describes the taste of young cow meat. So before banning the cow slaughtering and the beef eating, the four Vedas, Ramayana, puranas and Manu smiriti should be banned, because of their campaigning for beef eating. Due to Brahmins who received cows as a sacrificial fee (dakshina) and cow slaughtering Yagyas, the agriculture in the ancient India was about to fade. Thus the Buddhism and Jainism came against the Brahminic and Vedic rituals, and this is the reason for the celebration of both religions by the common people. Both religions were anti Brahministic and argued for vegetarianism. When the brahminism not only digested both the religions but also stolen the concept of vegetarianism. Even today the Kashmiri, Bengali and Deccan Brahmins eat non veg diet. There is a reason why the Brahminical forces today oppose beef eating. The Panchamas or the outcaste who lived outside the villages were commissioned and forced to eat the dead cows and do the menial jobs. On this basis they were discriminated in the name of birth and profession. Now brahminical forces are using beef eating as a weapon against muslim minorities also. One can say that in the politics of cow RSS has taken more tolls of human heads than the number of cows which were killed.

In the evolution of man from animal to human beings, the non veg diet helped a lot in the development of brain and body. In today’s world except the Brahmins and the upper caste Hindus the entire world is having beef and not only beef but whatever animal available. For example camel, dog, goat, rabbit etc are eaten according to the geographical climatic conditions as well as availability. There is no hierarchy between the non veg food. The Indian upper caste Brahmins who goes to Chicago city in US for computer jobs - where every day thousands of cows are slaughtered for beef. Can the Hindu right wing forces ban the migration of Hindus to America? When cow is sacred and holy then what about fish, cock, goat; where fish incarnation was taken by Lord Vishnu, cock as the vehicle of Lord Subbramanyan and goat was reared by Krishna along with cows respectively. When beef eating is prohibited how the caste Hindu and Brahmins can wear slippers made of cow skin. Even the god itself agreed to have child flesh, in Tamil siavite stories, what is the problem in having beef? When there is hatred against the muslims and discrimination against the dalits, the progressive person who oppose both the discrimination in the name of caste and minorities and to destroy caste system, should develop the habit of eating and cooking beef in their homes. If the cow is so holy and 33 crore gods are supposedly living in the body of the cow, why the hell Dalits are asked to carry the dead body of cow and burry it? Why not the gods who live in the earth (the Brahmins) the Sankaracharyas, the RSS Sangh parivar member do this? Protest against the ban of cow slaughtering and beef eating in Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka!!!

There is no god. There is no god. There is no god at all.
He who created god was a fool!
He who propagates god is a scoundrel!
He who worships god is a barbarian!!
Forget God!!! Think about Man!!!

KOODANKULAM: LETS KICKTHE SAFFRON AND CONGRESS SCOUNDRELS OUT!!

P

People at Koodankulam area are staging a democratic struggle in the last few months, calling for the closure of the nuclear power station that is being established here. The centre and the state governments, the comprador bourgeois, multi-national corporations, brahmanistic media and the ‘national’ parties including Congress and the BJP have all teamed up to defeat the unified struggle of the people. In this matter, the centre and the state governments are staging a clever drama that the plant’s operation can commence after allaying people’s fear. For this, an Expert committee headed by Muthu Vinayagam has been formed and has engaged in discussion with people thrice so far. The Expert committee which has refused to answer certain questions raised by the Koodankulam Struggle Committee in previous meetings had been scheduled to meet them for the forth time.Accordingly, participants of both the Expert committee and the Koodankulam Struggle Committee arrived at the meeting venue, which is the Tirunelveli Collectorate, on Tuesday the 31st of January. At that time, group of thugs under the leadership of Hindu Munnani’s State vice-president rowdy Jeyakumar attacked the members of the Koodankulam Struggle Committee, with rage. Police was witnessing this incident silently; they arrested the Hindu Munnani hooligans only after demonstration by women participants of the Koodankulam struggle committee.

Rowdyism by saffron criminals:The committee headed by Udayakumar who spoke to the media persons later said, people are not allowed to use even democratic means to stage their protests; explicit attacks by the religious fundamentalist groups like Hindu Munnani clearly conveys the message that there is no safety for minorities in this country. The committee registered their protest by refusing to participate in the discussions. As the people of Idindakarai village are fishermen belonging to Christianity, the RSS gang is trying to utilize this to its advantage. This faction is trying to take advantage by spreading a malicious campaign amongst people that the Christian priests are trying to destroy the sovereignty of our nation. The Congress party that is in a completely deteriorated form in Tamil Nadu, is putting all out efforts to proclaim that the Koodankulam Struggle committee is receiving funds from foreign nations; by doing this it is trying to establish its boot-licking strategy towards imperialism. The fast that is taking place at the grounds of the church that belongs to people of Idindhakarai. Other sundry expenses do not required any huge quantities of cash. Moreover, the people of that area – particularly the fishermen – are providing financial support by allocating a portion of their income for such expenses.
Even after the Struggle Committee has provided so many explanations, the saffron, congress and Dinamalar hooligans are continuing to howl such an unconscionable accusation against them. The darling of corporate media Anna Hazare’s fast was sponsored by multinational corporations; such a thing did not and cannot happen at Koodankulam. If the congress rogues’ statement is true, why don’t they announce the name of the foreign country that is providing the funds? Can’t we find out which country – America or Germany or Italy or France or Japan – is providing the funds and can’t our nation snap ties with them straight away? Without doing any of the above, what is the point in creating such a drama? How can foreign funds reach here by-passing Reserve Bank of India? It is actually the Congress and the BJP governments, which fore fronted their efforts in bringing foreign funds to millions of NGOs with an objective to disrupt people’s struggles. It is a well-known fact that Vishwa Hindu Parishad is the organisation that is topping the list that receives maximum amounts of funds from foreign countries. Moreover, it is a long established fact that none of these funds are being properly accounted for. Who is acting as a spineless lackey of the foreign nations? The present Congress government and the earlier BJP and its allies are the lackeys of first order. These are parties that benefited by being pimps and allowing multi nationals to rape mother India. No one can exceed Manmohan Singh who is the lackey of top order in India.
The saffron and khadi criminals in support of the nuclear plant:Next is the false news that is being spread by brahministic media like Dinamalar – they spread a lie that the power generated from the Koodankulam plant would help in the developing Tamil Nadu; they are trying to provoke not only the middle class but also the general public. They also shamelessly lie that the villages in Tamil Nadu are suffering with more than five hours of power cuts only because of non-functioning of the Koodankulam plant. What is the actual cause for the power cut? The unrestricted supply of power to the multi-national corporations and shopping malls are the real cause for power cuts to general public. Though India’s power generation capacity has seen a multi-fold growth, still more than 40 lakh villages are in dark. So where does the million-mega-watt power that is getting generated go?It is estimated that the India’s total power demand would be so many million mega watts in the upcoming years. We actually are not part of this estimate; our requirement is not being taken into account in this calculation. It is in fact the power demand of the comprador bourgeois and multi-national corporations that is fallaciously getting projected as the demand of the nation; this is being used for defrauding the public. Unaware of this fact, the small business owners believe that the Koodankulam project would be a solution for all their woes. We should realise that the majority of the common men are not part of the India’s plan to become a superpower. Moreover, power generated from nuclear reactors is not going to exceed a few ten mega watts. The policy of sending expired reactors of foreign nations at a huge cost to India is what is happening at Koodankulam and other areas. The U.S.–India Civil Nuclear Agreement is all about this. Government, which is incapable of helping people whose lives are ruined by cyclone Thane, what position will it be to help people in case of a nuclear disaster? All they have is cunningness of a fascist – they are trying to create consensus in various ways in order to oppress the Struggle committee and the people. The national parties – Congress and the BJP – which are denying the Tamil Nadu’s rights in Mullai Periyar issue are the ones which are treating the struggling Koodankulam people with enmity. If the old and new scores have to be settled, the congress party should be wiped out from Tamil Nadu, without even a trace. Similarly, the saffron terrorists should be taught a right lesson and should be eliminated from Tamil Nadu. These bloodthirsty wolves, which are trying to utilize every opportunity to provoke people with their ideas of religious fundamentalism, have now entered the Koodankulam area. Our duty now is to hunt down these wolves. If this is not done at the earliest, Tamil Nadu would also become a ‘manslaughter Modi’s’ Gujarat.

THE GREATNESS OF VEDAS???

As I concluded writing the third part of the Cultivator’s Whipcord, a saffron-clad shudra
sadhu, an enthusiastic, garrulous member of the Kabir sect parading a holy tulsi garland,
a regular visitor to Pandharpur (Maharashtra) came to my house and sat on a
bench on my courtyard. I asked the sadhu what it is that he desired.
To which the sadhu replied:

Sadhu- Are you Jotirao Phule?
Jotirao- Yes, indeed, I am the one.
Sadhu- You are a born Hindu. Because of your English education you have been lately
attacking Hinduism. So I thought I should discuss with you if the four principles Veda, the
main scriptures of Hinduism, are indeed divine in origin…. and satisfy myself. I have come
here for the purpose.
Jotirao- Have you yourself actually seen the four Vedas with your own eyes?
Sadhu- Well, yes. I have seen all of them in a Brahman’s house.
Jotirao- Can you offer any reliable evidence to prove that these scriptures were written
by God Himself?
Sadhu- Nothing, apart from what the Brahman told me during our chat.
Jotirao-  OK. To begin with do you think God has a definite shape?
Sadhu- How can he? God is supposed to be shapeless Parmatma.
Jotirao- How is it then that this shapeless God authored the four Vedas?
Sadhu- Only the Brahmans can answer that question. You’d better ask them.
Jotirao- Secondly, is it the case that God authored the Vedas with a view to liberating
mankind
Sadhu- Yes, indeed.
Jotirao- Thirdly, in which language did God compose the Vedic scriptures?
Sadhu- In a Sanskrit language.
Jotirao- Fourthly, is Sanskrit understood and spoken all over the world?
Sadhu- Very few people know this language.
Jotirao- This would prove that the Vedas were not written for the upliftment of
all mankind because most people of the world do not at all speak or
know Sanskrit. How can a scripture, which people don’t understand,
liberate them?
Sadhu- May be when they were written, people all over the world spoke Sanskrit. It is
possible that later various kinds of languages developed.
Jotirao- This would mean that God did not know that there would be multiplicity of
languages in the future. Does not it go against the omniscience of God? Further many
German, Scottish, English scholars like Max Muller have studied the Vedas rather well.
Is not it surprising that they did not disown Christianity and adopt the Vedic religion?
Sadhu-  Scriptures May be the thought of having to bathe thrice a day with a white
thread around his neck  like the Brahman in the climate of Europe scared Max Muller.
In any case he alone can answer your question. How I say anything on it?
Jotirao- If God had created the Vedic scriptures for the liberation of
entire mankind, the bhat brahmans would not have prohibited the shudras and
the atishudras for studying the Vedas. The bhat brahmans have thus
violated God’s commandment and are not the shudras and the
atishudras suffering for that? Why should they trust either the God
who is supposed to have created the Vedic scriptures or the
scriptures themselves? Or indeed why should they call themselves Hindus?
Sadhu- The bhat brahmans have never prevented the shudras and the atishudras
from studying Vedas. Several bhat brahmans go to the missionaries and teach the Vedas
there. The shudras are much too poor and resource less to study the Vedas.
What can the Brahmans do? At least that is what the Brahmans argue.
Jotirao- This proves that you do not know anything of the Brahmans’s
intrigue and conspiracies. Let that be. Are the missionaries who live off religion rich
enough to pay for their Vedic studies? And then how about the Shinde and Holkars,
rulers of the princely states?
These Shudra rulers are surely not paupers. They could have studied the scriptures.
Why they did not? I think you must understand that these bhat brahmans
have been historically making tonnes and tonnes of money off these rulers.
Have they ever thought running a school for the children of the Shudra
peasant? They could have educated at least one of them. But they did not,
for that would have been the end of the Brahmans’ monopoly over learning.
If they had educated some of the caste brethren of these rulers, there would
have been some non-Brahmans equal of the brahmans. The present state when
they are all falling flat before the brahman would have drastically changed. They did not
want it.
Sadhu- OK. If this is the case why can you not persuade the rulers to start schools
for their Shudra brethren?
Jotirao- Even in their courts the dominance of the brahman officer continues.  They
would not even let a small fellow like me reach the prince and be heard!
Sadhu- Oh, my God. I never imagined that the brahmans would have had such cunning!
I am now convinced that when the Shudra princes come of age these cunning brahmans
would not hesitate to write to the British authorities that, as these princes cannot
manage their affairs, they should not be given charge of their states just yet. Having
thus improved the British authorities they must be turning these princes into performing
monkeys. Thanks.
Time for me to take leave of you!
Jotirao- OK. Bye-bye.
